Tax cuts on the way as steps taken at meetingplement a g

China will implement a group of measures to cut value-added ta

x rates, ensuring that the tax burden on all industries will only go down, according to a

decision made by the State Council’s executive meeting presided over by Premier Li Keqiang on Wednesday.

The Government Work Report this year set out a plan for l

arger tax cuts, including lowering the VAT rate in manufacturing and other industries from 16 t

o 13 percent and the VAT rate in transportation, construction and other industries from 10 to 9 percent.

A number of concrete measures were decided upon at the

Wednesday meeting to achieve the targets, which will be enacted on April 1.

Input VAT eligible for deduction will be expanded and will cove

r passenger transportation services. Taxpayers will be able to get their input tax on real esta

te payments deducted in full on a one-time basis, instead of on two occasions in two years.

Some EU states, including Germany, had given a largel

positive response to May’s well-flagged request.

But French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said May would need to make her case before EU leaders in Brussels.

“Our position is to send the British a clear and simple message. As The

resa May has repeatedly said herself, there are only two options to get out of the EU: rati

fy the Withdrawal Agreement or exit without a deal,” Le Drian told the French parliament.

May’s initiative marked the latest twist in more than two years of

negotiations that have left British politics in chaos and her authority in tatters.

After the defeats in parliament opened up the possibility of Britain leaving the EU with

out a deal, May told parliament on Wednesday that she remained committed to leaving “in an orderly manner”.

“The most common things that the clients are saying — and they are quite heartbreaki

s say that when they encounter people on the street, they feel like they would be recognized,” she said.

The revelation that an extra pilot saved the plane the day

before the crash has never been reported before, according to Bloomberg.

Aviation analyst and editor in chief of Airlineratings.com, Geoffrey Thomas, said it was not unusual for off-duty pilots, known as dead heads, to fly in the cockpit of planes.

“It could well be that the flight is full and he needs to get back t

o Jakarta — so as long as he is authorized to do so — then it’s absolutely fine,” he said.

However, the presence of the third pilot in the cockpit did not appear in the National Tra

nsportation Safety Committee’s (KNKT) November preliminary report into the crash.

Thomas said this fact should have been reported “as you could argue that the pilot was a distraction or an assistance,” he said.

Residents in Beira, the city worst-hit by the disaster told A

many victims were injured by the flying metal sheets from the roofs of some houses in the area.

”Flying sheets of metal decapitated people. People are very bad here, some are in hospital… we don’t have any help h

ere… it’s getting bad, we’re eating badly, we’re sleeping badly and we don’t have homes,” Rajino Paulino said.

Layla George, another victim said she was sleeping on Thursday

night when the roof of her house was blown away by powerful winds caused by the cyclone.

”I was inside my house, I was sleeping and I had set the bed for my daughter to sle

ep underneath… suddenly the roof flew away. I had locked the door and I lost the keys. We started crying for help

but there was no help because it was the middle of the night and there was a lot of wind,” George told AFP.

They said they have lost their houses and they have no place to stay.

Amnesty International in a statement on Tuesday calle

d on foreign governments and international aid agencies to”ramp up” resources and assistance for thousands of pe

ople that have been displaced, and those that are still trapped in the aftermath of the disaster.

The international human rights organization urged authorities in Mozambique and Malawi, countries that are p

rone to flooding to adopt climate change policies that could reduce the impact of such occurrences.

”As the effects of climate change intensify, these ext

reme weather conditions can be expected to revisit us more frequently. The devastation wro

ught by Cyclone Idai is yet another wake-up call for the world to put in place ambitious climate change mitigation me

asures,” said Muleya Mwananyanda, Amnesty Deputy Regional Director for Southern Africa.

The SEC sought to remove Musk as CEO of Tesla last year

after he tweeted in August that he had secured funding to take the company private. It was eventually revealed that while

he’d spoken with investors, he hadn’t secured anything. The SEC said the tweet was “false and misleading.”

The settlement allowed Musk to stay on as CEO, but he had to give up his role as chair

man of Tesla. He and Tesla were fined a total of $40 million, which Musk paid himself.

The US District Court for Southern New York, which approved

the original settlement in October, will decide whether Musk’s February 19 tweet viol

ated the deal. While you were living your life on December 18th, 2018, a giant space rock exploded 16 miles above the Ea

rth’s surface, giving off 10 times the energy of the atomic bomb detonated over Hiroshima. No big deal.

The event is properly called a “fireball,” NASA’s term for “exceptionally bright meteors that are spectacular enough to to be seen over a very wide area.”

With an impact energy of 173 kilotons, December’s fireball was the second-most powerful to enter Earth’s atmosp

here in 30 years. You may recall the first — it was that huge, blinding fireball that rocked parts of Russia in 2013.

This may sound catastrophic, but images being sharedf Decembe

’s fireball are actually quite poetic in scale. This atomic, otherworldly force appears as a simple red blip above the clouds.

Some colour views of the #meteor that flew over the North Pacific in December 2018, taken by Japan’s #Himawari satellite.

The meteor is really clear here – bright orange fireball against the blue + white background!

But you likely didn’t know about it until now, because scientists only just noticed it.

That’s because the area where the fireball exploded, over the Bering Sea, is extremely remote.

NASA’s Planetary Defense Officer Lindley Johnson told the BBC s

uch a powerful meteor event only happens a few times every 100 years. (As a side no

te, “Planetary Defense Officer” is probably as close to a real-life “Avengers” title as you’re gonna get.)

CNN has reached out to NASA for additional comment.

In case you’re not uneasy enough about the reality that flaming extraterr

estrial objects are continuously pelting our fragile planet, they do so with alarming regularity.

NASA keeps track of most of the notable fireballs and bolides (a similar astronomical term) that reach Earth. So far in

2019, there have already been five notable fireball events. Don’t worry, though! Most are super tiny.

And if the big one ever comes along to make dinosaurs of us all, NASA’s Planetary Defense Office has our backs.

Still, they are just the tip of the cat economy iceberg. Medi

care, theme parks, pet boarding services are expanding the sector.

The Spring Festival holiday in February was a peak period for such services as more pet ow

ners tended to make use of luxury pet hotels as ordinary boarding kennels were overbooked.

Beijing-based Liu Ronghuan, 35, a college teacher, said she was quite satisfied with the pet hotel she chose for her cat.

It offered fancy services like massages, beauty salons, and pet portrait photos. The s

even-day stay cost Liu about 5,000 yuan, almost the same price as a three-star hotel room.

“Compared with the price, I cared more about whe

ther my cat was having an enjoyable time during the family reunion time,” Liu said.
